The dos and don'ts of wellness

Posted by Christine L. Tricoli

So you’ve heard the hype about wellness and buy in, but the question now is: how do you encourage your employees to do the same? Well, here are the steps needed to implement a successful wellness plan.

Let us show you how you can save 15-30% on your company's total medical costs.

Know your target. You want your employees to lead healthier lifestyles and, overall, provide a return of interest. In order to do this successfully you cannot focus on solely obvious “at-risk” employees. While physical health is important, personal and behavioral health can cause even more of an impact on your workforce. The best way to combat this is with an employee assistance program designed to help all “at-risk” employees.

Integrate it into your culture. If your wellness program doesn’t offer a variety of options for your employees, e.g. healthy meal options in your cafeteria, walking trails, counselors on standby to name a few, than you cannot expect a successful wellness program. Employees need options tailored to their specific needs and the convenience to access those options whenever needed.

Positivity is the basis. No employee likes to be told constantly what they’re doing wrong in order to improve, work wise or health wise. If you want employees to respond positively to your program, employers must be positive themselves. Find out employee interests and encourage them to be their best selves, through leadership and through access.
