Make your next company health fair healthy and fun!

Posted by Paula Turnquist

As health fairs become increasingly more common, the search to find ideas to keep employees engaged and participating becomes even harder. Whether you’re new to the idea of health fairs or you haven’t had quite the turnout you hoped for, here are a few tips for this year’s health fair.

Make it an all day event. Being able to get away from the desk and unwind for a little while is already a great start to de-stressing your employees. Pick a weather friendly day, play some upbeat music and feel free to decorate as if at a Houston fair. Invite local dance instructors to teach a popular dance, or local chefs to show your employees how to prepare healthier meals at home. Create an overall light atmosphere.

Don’t forget the flu shots. With this year’s flu epidemic it’s never too late to get a flu shot. It’s likely a fraction of your employees are diabetic or prediabetic, so bring dietitians to talk about diet changes and preventive care. For other conditions, bring physicians, your local Kelsey-Seybold doctor would be happy to attend, to talk about treatments or lifestyle changes to get your employees working and feeling better.

Add fun and variety to the mix. Make sure there’s something for everyone. A variety of vendors will help you engage your employees for longer and make lasting impacts on the company. Be sure you cover all of the major medical issues, include some fun activities, plenty of food samples, and places for employees to relax, absorb the information they’ve been given, and speak to people about their concerns if necessary.
