Businesses increase spending on employee wellness

Posted by Julio Iturriaga

It’s no secret that a healthy workforce is a happy workforce. After all, if you are happy and healthy, you are more likely to help others, including customers, clients and coworkers.

Increase-spending-featured.pngAccording to a recent survey conducted in part by the National Business Group on Health, companies have continued to embrace employee wellness initiatives, with investments in these programs on the rise for third year in a row. These efforts focus on building a workforce with greater knowledge on what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, and promote enhanced access to tools that allow them to stay on top of their own health.

According to the survey, the three most popular programs among employees are 1) biometric screenings; 2) health risk assessments; and 3) physical activity programs, which can be as simple as organizing a lunchtime walking group or forming a company team for charity walks and runs.
Managing health insurance costs is important for any business, small or large. By working with a cost-effective, high-quality health plan that offers a wellness program, businesses can offer their employees better care and greater value at competitive prices.

With medical costs on the rise, employers are starting to see the advantages of wellness programs on their bottom line. It’s important to provide a company culture that values employee wellness and acknowledges their efforts towards being more mindful of their health. In the end, leadership can realize lower medical costs as well as a more engaged and satisfied workforce, who take fewer sick days and are able to do their best work.
